As a multi-media artist, Colleen Sargen works primarily with metal, stone, and found objects to create sculptural and mixed media pieces where colors are retained in their original state, and with the dominant aesthetic quality being the juxtaposition of disparate objects. In her paintings and hand pulled prints, her style is abstract, texture continues, and color becomes bold. There is sometimes a functional aspect to the 3-D work. Most often, in all of her work there is an underlying commentary, either within the composition or through use of specific materials.
