Statement
Over the last four years my process has
been straightforward. I start with a canvas and a four
inch brush. I allow my inner eye to choose color without
analysis. Each color is chosen from an inner impulse separately,
without regard as to its suitability with other colors.
My brush strokes are practiced but laid down in an improvisational
manner. I work intensely on a painting until a composition
comes into focus and my minds eye says ah-ha:
Then it is done. Through this process four bodies of work
have developed, each representing a different emotional
state.
The geometric pieces represent intense,
anxious energy. The landscapes represent a more grounded,
peaceful state of mind, with the energy centered at the
horizon. A higher level of excitement and anticipation
are reflected in the linear pieces. In the organic work,
the creativity is more free-wheeling and I am able to
rise above my current emotional state and access a higher
level of awareness.
