STREETS OF PORTLAND

During the month of July, Mitch Freifeld offers oil paintings from his ongoing studies of streets of Portland. Freifeld's compositions offer a fresh look at familiar sights; often he selects single historical buildings that may have escaped our attention and presents them in a novel, informal manner that invites us to see them with new eyes.

In addition to historical buildings, Mr. Freifeld has also put to canvas the many new configurations of cityscapes that have been a result of recent developments in various Portland neighborhoods. Particularly noteworthy are his paintings which juxtapose condo buildings at unconventional perspectives, creating rhythmic patterns of windows and facades cascading into one another at unexpected angles.

Freifeld's modernistic work has become known for it's raw, almost naive depictions of urban areas. His work is currently featured in Seattle as well as in galleries throughout Oregon and Washington.
