During the month of September, Bella Perla Gallery will be presenting the work of Portland encaustic artist, Alexandra Petersen. Ms. Petersen brings to the medium some new twists, such as incorporating line drawings onto the encaustic background, which often give the figures a feel of floating in a dream-like atmosphere.

This current body of work focuses on children, animals, and dream states as well as references to fairy tales such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. In reference to the subject matter, the artist says in her statement: “as children, we all lived in a sort of ‘dream state’ where every experience was full of expectation, wonder and no small amount of trepidation. When every experience is a fresh wonder, the world is a surreal place. No one thing is strange when all is strange. My paintings are my attempt to recapture a tiny corner of that world.”
